A collection was held for our defenders during the “Poppy of Memory” charity event

On November 4, the PNU Faculty of History of Political Science and International Relations held a charity event “Poppy of memory”, dedicated to honoring the memory of those who died in the First World War. This event has been held at the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations since 2014.

As the organizers emphasize, in the first half of November 105 years ago, the First World War ended and the memory of those who died in the Great War is commemorated all over the world. Thanks to Canadian military doctor John McCrae’s poem “On the Fields of Flanders” (1915), poppies became symbols of the fallen in battle. The idea of using a red poppy as a symbol of memory belongs to Moina Michael, a lecturer at the University of Georgia (USA).

During the charity event, poppies made by students and sweets were sold. The slogan of the event was the appeal “Buy a poppy – help the Armed Forces.” The collected funds, which is UAH 20,663, will be transferred to the needs of male and female students of the Faculty of History of Political Science and International Relations, who are in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We thank everyone who joined the gathering, teachers, employees and students of the faculty, the student senate.
