Ostap KARDASH

Doctor of Philosophy in History and Archeology, Assistant Professor at the Department of World History, Leading Specialist at the Center for Medieval Studies

 

Ostap Kardash was born on 15 May 1994 in the village of Khryplyn, Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, Ivano-Frankivsk region. After graduating from Ivano-Frankivsk Specialised School No.11 in 2012, he entered the Institute of History, Political Science and International Relations of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, graduating with honours in 2016 with a degree in History. In 2016-2018 he studied for a master’s degree at the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the same university, specialising in History and Archeology. In 2018-2022 he was a postgraduate student at the Department of World History. In December 2015 he joined the staff of the Centre for Medieval Studies, founded by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor M. Voloshchuk at the Department of World History of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, on a voluntary basis.

Since October 2022 he has been working as an assistant at the Department of World History, and since 19 March 2024 he has been a leading specialist at the Centre for Medieval Studies, which operates at the Department.

On 12 January 2024 at the Specialised Academic Council of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the speciality 032 History and Archeology on the topic “Latin and Cyril and Methodius Church Traditions of the IX-XI centuries: the Eastern Frontier of Canonical Confrontation”.

Since 2018 he has been the executive secretary of the student scientific journal Student Historical Notebooks. Since 2023 – Executive Secretary of the scientific publication “Halych. Collection of scientific works”.

He researches Christianisation processes and church-religious interfaith relations in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe during the VIII–ХІ centuries, the formation and transformation of the frontier of the canonical confrontation between the Latin and Cyril and Methodius church traditions during the ІХ–ХІ centuries. His research interests also include the study of Russo-German political and diplomatic relations of the Х–ХІ centuries, the Cyril and Methodius tradition in the historical memory and church practice of the Central European countries of the ХІІ–ХVI centuries.
